W/Me vs. W/Rt UW smite farms
I often see almost completely W/Rts farming UW. But someone told me about this W/Me Whirlwind build recently. It says on pvxwiki that it is the fastest way to farm the smites. The video accompanying it is exactly 9 minutes long, but it cuts out one portion and the guy misses a group, so it's more like 10-11 minutes.
Are there any advantages it has over the W/Rt build? I've been using this build, and whenever I actually have a successful run, I do it in about 15 minutes. Until I get better. I don't know if my high failure rate is lack of ever really farming much or if the build is very fragile. I might switch to W/Rt, but I'm not sure.

And what is your take on killing all smites at once? Is it really less chance of an ecto drop? Because I've done 5 complete runs and I haven't gotten a single ecto.

I run the W/Rt build. I seem to get 1 ecto every 10 runs or so. if i remember correctly the there is a 2% chance of ecto drop from smites.

w/rt is safer (last I heard and tried) which is probably why you see them more than w/me

1 ecto every 10 runs? Good god, I must be the luckiest man alive if that is your ratio. I get 1 ecto per 2 runs. Now that is an avg figure as there are 3-4 runs I may get none and then some i get 3-4 in one run, so it averages out to about one every 2 runs. As for other variants I really am most comfortable with the W/Rt.

I use W/Rt, get like 1-2 ecto per run with 1/6 dry runs. This is just smites only, although I heard of people going to kill mindblade, need to try that out. Much safer than the W/Me build. Not sure about you people getting 1/20 runs an ecto, maybe just doing UW farming way too much.

A video I made
W/Rt vs W/Me
It's not a tutorial...shows the 2 builds on the same sort of mobs with roughly similar sized pulls. Note; I now clear the chamber in 1 pull with W/Me...did it in 2 in the video, just cos I hadn't managed it in 1 before that.

I've tried both before.
W/Rt:
[+] Newb friendly. Seems easier to use than the W/Me for newcomers to the UW.
[-] Slower than the W/Me.
W/Me:
[+] Quicker than the W/Rt
[-] Not as newb friendly as the W/Rt. However, to those who are experienced with the smite run, there really is no "safety" difference between the two builds; aggroing and killing graspings, running to the ice wastes, and knowing the coldfire night patrols is extremely easy after a few smite runs.
Overall:
If you are new to the UW, use the W/Rt.
If you are experienced with smite run, use the W/Me.

I would think that W/Me would be better going up against Aataxes and mot just smites.

W/Rt is nice because it's pretty fail free. Your armor isn't a big issue and your weapons aren't a big issue either. Even the build is pretty lenient imo as long as you use the few essential skills.
W/Me, on the otherhand, requires more. You need a zealous weapon, and I'm pretty sure you need knights armor. Also, this build can be difficult if you don't aggro enough smites/graspings because you don't gain enough energy from zealous. The W/Rt build doesn't require any amount of foes
So whatever fits your situation and playing style better is the one you should choose.

the whirlwind he's talking bout is the warrior sunspear skill.
Back to Topic, i personally use the W/Me(since ive done UW alot) but like everyone else has said, for new playsers to U, W/rt is safer.

1 every 2 runs *gasp* /looks at ele section...o, watdya kno, average E/Mo mindblade farm nets 5-6 ectos a run. Now between the W/Rt and W/Me, def go W/Rt if you're new just for the ease of use, more experience...go W/Me, but in all honesty, it's w/e you find more fun
